International Mountain Conference keynote: "Climate Risks, Uncertainties, and Opportunities"

Climate risks are real. So are the opportunities. Late last year, Texas surpassed California in total solar power installations — not because of state-level climate policies, but because solar PV is the cheapest source of electricity in history. The clean-energy revolution is not a matter of if but when. And yet, saying so out loud is akin to climate “denial” — seemingly arguing that policies don’t matter. They do, especially when it comes to overcoming regional barriers to adopting the kinds of policies that can help a particular region, city, or municipality stand out in the race toward a more resilient, lower-carbon, higher-efficiency future.
